The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport regularly receives questions, both from at home and abroad, about the structure and performance of the health care insurance system in the Netherlands.This booklet is intended to provide the required information. It is aimed primarily to readers who have some knowledge of health care insurance. Condideration is given to the following health insurance schemes: the Exceptional Medical Expenses Act, the Health Insurance Act, the Medical Insurance Access Act and the statutory public servants’ health insurance schemes. Various international aspects of health insurance are also examined.
